WEDNESDAY SHORT FILM SCREENING: Killing You Softly
September 16 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Every Wednesday we screen a selection of fantastic short films made by filmmakers from Waltham Forest and beyond, all genres including animation.
Killing You Softly is a brand new documentary about the impact of air pollution made by ex-Waltham Forest resident Jonathan Brind.
Medway is one of the most dangerously polluted areas of south east England with PM2.5 levels, small bits of grit and dirt in the air, consistently well above the World Health Organisation’s hazard levels. Yet nearly half a century ago transport engineers worked out that it was cheaper to invest in a free bus system than pay for the road system needed to run the cars that cause the pollution. In this video film maker Jonathan Brind examines how the oil industry was allowed to get away with this madness and finds hope in places as different as Luxembourg and Britain’s one time motor city Birmingham, that are tackling the dominance of the car. He also discovers that PM2.5 is killing many times more people than Covid 19.
